There are a myriad ways of doing a Balayage, a technique which involves coloring the hair so that the eventual result has a darker root blended seamlessly toward lighter ends!
Zig Zag sectioning, diagonal sections, or different permutations and combinations of sectioning that give you results that, though look similar, are in fact subtly different! The cost factor too depends on how you want the eventual outcome to present itself.
Tamali Ghosh brought in a reference pic and wanted her dark hair shaded in and graded to look like that.
The process involved micro weaving and sweeping Balayage painting, and the toners we used were Schwarzkopf  7-57 and @schwarzkopfin 9-1,7. Colour and styling done by me

What makes for a Good Hairdresser? Is it the skill level?

Of course you would need a high degree of skill to execute a good cut and colour, and if the instruments you have are geared to perform exactly and as precisely as you want them too, all the better, still, why then are so many Masters at Cutting and colouring, less in demand than their equally skilled and popular counterparts?

It lies in the communication skills. Being able to understand what it is the clients need and wants and whether it will be what’s best for them or not and then communicating the same to her in a manner that sits well with her:him, is an art form, only a select few in the Industry have been able to command.

This is probably because of a lack of confidence on the part of the stylist-this is a state a client senses immediately, and then becomes increasingly uncomfortable, quickly asking for another stylist to attend to them.

Building up esteem for a hairdresser means being absolutely sure of how a job is to be executed and having a surety of demeanour that projects that, this puts a client at ease instantly. This level of Security in ones skill level comes through continuous upskilling, practise, interacting with other skilled masters.

Another point to remember is to at all times be aware of the trap of over confidence and resting on ones laurels!

It is easy to take the Client for granted, instead listen and engage with her/him at all stages so as to understand what it is the Client wants and her/his growing needs

A Good stylist works at many levels, and the emotional and Mental comfort they set up before actually cutting or colouring is paramount!
